Dental implants are an excellent way to replace missing teeth, providing a long-term solution that can last for years or even for life. The treatment protects your jawbone and restores the appearance and the ability to eat and talk comfortably.
A dental implant takes the place of a missing or failing adult tooth. It is best described as an artificial tooth root, consisting of a small post or screw made from medical-grade titanium alloy and which is surgically inserted into the jawbone where it becomes firmly fused in place. The implant is strong enough to support a new crown which is attached to the post with a special connector called an abutment. We can place multiple implants to support dental bridges or even entire arches of teeth.
Dental implants could help you if you have lost single or multiple teeth or have teeth that are failing. Treatment is especially beneficial for people with full or partial dentures and who struggle to wear them comfortably. Using dental implants to retain loose dentures can greatly increase comfort and biting strength and ensures the dentures will not move when you talk or laugh with others. You could even get rid of dentures entirely, replacing them with a fixed bridge of teeth that is only removable by Dr. Rick.
If you have a missing or failing adult tooth, you may be a candidate for an implant. It is important that your jaws have finished growing, and you must have reasonable dental and medical health. We evaluate patients for implant dentistry very carefully, and we will review your medical history, including details of all prescribed and over-the-counter medications. Some conditions like diabetes can affect healing after implant surgery, but if diabetes is well-controlled, you may well be suitable for dental implants. It is best not to smoke, and we much prefer that you quit before surgery, and hopefully for good as smoking greatly affects implant healing and the long-term success of treatment.
We use durable and long-lasting Straumann dental implants because they are made from clinically tested materials that promote faster healing and less post-operative discomfort. Straumman dental implants have a greater mechanical strength compared with ordinary titanium implants, as they are made from a high-performace alloy. This alloy bonds exceptionally well with the surrounding bone, helping to preserve the jawbone. Using Straumman implants allows us to provide less invasive treatments that are more comfortable for our patients.
